How Many Lightbulbs Does it Take to Change the World? One. And You're Looking At It.
I would'nt be posting this if I haven't tried for myself. CFLs are inexpensive (as low as 3.5 EUR for a 18W/100W equivalent bulb), quiet (no buzzing noise) and flickerless.
Their light is gorgeous, almost as sexy as halogen lamp. Incandescents are so obsolete...
In this exact moment, I am typing by the light of the mentioned CFL, resulting in a 18 W consumption instead of the 100 W halogen I were used to.

I learnt music sight reading when I was 19. I was a graduate student in Chemical Engineering and I studied in the 15-minutes-break between lessons.
Linear Algebra, then intervals. Calculus, then scales.
They were stressful and consuming years. But I had never regret the time spent on sight reading. Solfege opened the door toward the music I never heard before.
If you're into music in some way, try GNU Solfege. And if you're a musician, even by Schoenberg standards, at least may be good for your disciples.
Comes in Windows and Linux flavors.
P.S.: I will never forget Master Federico Salce, former director of the Cappella Musicale di San Petronio (Bologna, Italy). He taught me sight-singing. He left us four years ago.

Chissà se in cielo passano gli who. (Wonder if in heaven they play "The Who")
Attenzione - post esistenzialista.
"And then to whom don't come back: maybe up there, surely up there, it is likely they will not sleep anymore."
Coming back is a little like dying.
