Commercial made real: Holy Trinit, Rome

A bunch of men launched a whopping half million balls down the stairs of Holy Trinit on Pincio Hill in Rome. See the video below:

The scenario is very similar to a TV manufacturer commercial, that became a viral video on the Net a couple of years ago: see by yourself.

Before you ask, the soundtrack is "Heartbeats" by Jose Gonzales.

The commercial involved 250,000 bouncy balls, so the half million declared by the newspaper seems a bit overrated. Is quite an effect anyway.

Beautiful. I'd like to witness something like that. Bring it to the U.S.!

(seen on Boing Boing!)

That is AWESOME!

Thank you. Several comments on Boingboing state: the commercial is for real too.

Ok, maybe I just used the wrong term (real), I just wanted to emphasize the ball throwing for the commercial was made with proper setup, e.g. 12 cameramen hovering by and police to stop the traffic and so on.

This time people just saw a lot of ball coming down the stairs, without notice. That's all.

Rome? Isn't this San Francisco? I can only see one video, so maybe I'm missing the one of Rome. In any case, this looks awesome. Hope they cleaned up their balls after.

Roma? Sembra piu come San Francisco. Ma posso vedere solo uno video, quindi forse mi sbaglia il video di Roma. In ogni caso, e molto figatta. Spero che hanno pulito dopo.

It was in San Francisco a couple of years ago. I recall a friend receiving a notice in the mail about a commercial for Sony consisting of thousands of plastic balls bouncing in his North Beach neighborhood. I never saw the finished product, but it looks so cool!

it is also important to notice that in the original commercial they used bouncy balls where these guys used balls like you would find in a kids playground pit.

Hello! By the way, Jose Gonzales didn't write the Bravia music, it's a cover of a song originally written by The Knife.

Just for the record the music in the commercial is originally a song 'The Knife' made but Jose Conzales 'remixed'... Both 'The Knife' and Jose are swedish.
The Knife's song is really amazing too.

@anonimo (comment #4): if you don't see the Rome video here is the original link.
BTW: Your italian is very good.

@f: the setup for the Sony commercial should have been really impressive, and collaboration from people living there was indeed mandatory.

@kb1ibt: I don't know if they used another ball type on purpose. I can say that the italian for bouncy ball is 'pallina', where the playground ball is called 'palla'. The latter is used as synonym for 'lie' (the excuse for the throwing was a protest).

@anonimo (#7) and @mici: thank for the info, I will search for 'the Knife' version.

That's excellent. What an awesome viral video to boot. I hadn't seen this before.

That was one of the happiest things I've ever seen.

Watching both of those videos really made my day!
Out of interest- do you know what the protest is about?

Decio Biavati ha detto...

@elmadness: the 'perp' (Graziano Cecchini, maybe the same person who poured red dye in the Trevi Fountain), told the protest is about garbage emergency in Naples due to mendacious management ('palle', balls) by both political sides.

@anonimo (#7) and @mici: I just get a youtubed version of 'the Knife' Heartbeats: it really rocks! It was like hearing "It's my life" sung by Bon Jovi (original) and by Paul Anka (cover).

They are coming to UK soon as well.
